Putting a 2.95:1 ring and pinion in the diff would make 5th gear on the stock transmission feel like an overdrive. Also it would make the other 4 gears longer meaning more time in boost, so a win win. You won't have as many traction problems, will have better cruising rpms, and more time in boost. The only negatives I see are that initial spool up would be slower, and launching would be slower. But if you throw enough hp/nitrous in front of that 2.95 it will make it launch like a 4.10. :) But for a street car this wouldn't really matter.
